Speak out in Hounslow is a local charity working to enable adults with learning disabilities to improve their lives. We work directly with individuals in Hounslow to give them skills, confidence and knowledge to access opportunities and have more control. We also work nationally to provide information and advice to others working in advocacy and those working with adults with learning disabilities.
We started delivering services in June 1996 as part of Hounslow Association of Voluntary Community Care Organisations (HAVCCO).
Our work was to run self-advocacy training and support the setting up of speaking up groups.
In January 2002 we re-launched ourselves as an independent organisation called Speak Out In Hounslow. We are a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, number 1089995.
Today Speak Out in Hounslow maintains a range of services to benefit adults with learning disabilities whilst continuously listening to the community to learn what services they want and need.
To date the services we run include
Direct advocacy,
Saturday Outings club,
Volunteer projects including volunteer citizen advocacy,
Direct Payments information and support,
Speaking up Groups (Self-Advocacy),
Social outings,
Campaigning work
We employ 3 staff, some with learning disabilities as well as sessional workers. We also support volunteers and are always seeking more to support the increased demand for the services we offer.
